Each country has its own food safety and customs authorities, and several apply common customs-union rules. Procedures change, so confirm the current requirements with your forwarder or national authority before ordering.

French labelling

Labels are generally in French: product name, ingredients, allergens, net weight, dates, storage conditions, origin and importer. The factory prints labels, so send the text before production.

Halal in the Sahel and on the coast

In markets with large Muslim populations such as Senegal, Mali or Niger, distributors often expect halal products. Ask for the certificate and policy; see the halal checklist.

Ports, heat and shelf life

Shipments often arrive at Abidjan, Dakar or Douala and continue inland by road. Heat and humidity are constant: plan dates and storage with shipping to hot climates and shelf life of imported chocolate.

Documents

Prepare the documents in our export documents checklist and check what else your country requires.

Packs and channels

Wholesalers, neighbourhood shops, supermarkets and kiosks ask for different formats; see pack formats.
