Chocolate Export Documents Checklist for Importers

Customs delays often come from missing or mismatched paperwork, not from the goods. Here is the checklist of documents importers commonly request for chocolate and wafer shipments from Türkiye, and what to confirm with your authority first.

Every destination has its own import rules, so treat this as a starting list and confirm the exact requirements with your food authority or customs broker before the order is placed.

Commercial documents

  • Commercial invoice: product names, quantities, unit prices, Incoterm and currency
  • Packing list: cartons, pallets, gross and net weights
  • Transport document: bill of lading for sea, airway bill for air
  • Insurance certificate when the term includes insurance, such as CIF

Origin and customs documents

  • Certificate of origin, issued by the chamber of commerce
  • Preferential origin certificate where a trade agreement applies and you want reduced duty
  • Export declaration handled by the seller

Food safety and compliance documents

  • Health or sanitary certificate from the competent authority, if your country requires one
  • Halal certificate covering the factory and products; see the halal checklist
  • Certificate of analysis or product specification, on request
  • Allergen and ingredient information matching the label

Registration and labels

Many markets require product registration before the first shipment and a label in a specific language. Find out early, because labels are printed at the factory. Check dates too: the shelf-life guide explains why.

The exporter prepares most of them, while the importer provides registrations, permits and customs clearance in the destination country.

Do I need a health certificate for chocolate?

It depends on the importing country. Ask your food authority before ordering.

Can we send the documents electronically?

Scans are usually sent in advance for approval; whether originals are required depends on the bank and the customs of the destination country.
